| Don Maitz has twice been the recipient of SF's prestigious Hugo Award for Best Professional Artist and has two art books in print devoted to his work First Maitz and Dreamquests--both exceptional tributes to an exceptional talent. He is also the originator of the illustrated trademark for Captain Morgan Spiced Rum and has worked for such diverse clients as Bell Telephone, Kodak, the National Geographic Society, Mill Pond Press and The Greenwich Workshop. He has received the Howard Award from the World Fantasy Convention, a silver metal from the Society of Illustrators, and a considerable number of Chesley Awards from the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists. Don's work is colorful, lively, and inventive and he is especially noted for his intriguing depictions of pirates and barbarians.

Like several artists of his generation, Maitz harks back to those halcyon days of the Brandywine painters. He attended the Paier College of Art in New Haven, Connecticut and graduated in 1975. In his busy work schedule that includes creating illustrations for books, magazines, greeting cards, record albums, posters, puzzles, and limited-edition prints, he makes tome for an occasional guest instructor stint at the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, not far from his home.
