"In her youth, Emma Bull personally helped keep the continent balanced by being born in Southern California and moving to Minneapolis, where she became involved in the IWW (The Interstate Writers' Workshop, aka the Scribblies). Her first novel War for the Oaks (1987), won the Locus Award for Best First Novel. After several more years and novels she moved back west; she now lives in Bisbee, Arizona, where she'd ride the range if she had a pony. She doesn't; but she is working on Territory, a fantasy novel about the Old West. Besides her novels, Emma has written screenplays, short stories, and a children's book. In her copious spare time she is one-half of the folk duo Flash Girls, along with Lorraine Garland." (from bio at back of Ballads)
Emma Bull herself has requested I note that Flash Girls has darned near disbanded because she and Lorraine Garland are living "too far acros the continent from each other to keep being a band".
