| | "The Skeleton Key"
| *Finalst for Nebula award Best Novellette, 1994 Fantasy & Science Fiction, Aug 1993
| "[The Skeleton Key] deals with a horrific event in a non-gruesome
manner. Its fantastic elements belong to the Greek rather than the
European tradition. Despint the mixing of Devil worship, death, and the
Greek God Hermes, the story's warmth is reminiscent of the best in young
adult fiction. Unclassifiable and touching, "The Skeleton Key is Nina
Kiriki Hoffman at her best."
