"[The Skeleton Key] deals with a horrific event in a non-gruesome manner. Its fantastic elements belong to the Greek rather than the European tradition. Despite the mixing of Devil worship, death, and the Greek God Hermes, the story's warmth is reminiscent of the best in young adult fiction.
